After studying at the Motley Theatre Design Course at the English National Opera, Conway assisted Tanya Moiseiwitsch at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. He has designed extensively for Theatre and Film in Ireland, the UK and the US, including the Oscar nominated film THE FIELD and the Bafta Award winning documentary, BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE. Conway's design for SHIBARI at the Abbey Theatre (Peacock) represented Ireland at the World Stage Design Exhibition in Cardiff in 2013. His design for Particle of Dread (Oedipus Variations) by Sam Shepherd for Field Day Theatre Company and the US off-Broadway premiere for the Signature Theatre production in New York was selected to represent the UK at the Prague Quadrennial in 2015. The design was exhibited at the VICTORIA & ALBERT MUSEUM in London and remains in the museum's collection. |
He is a former Head of Design for the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, and former Associate Designer for Druid Theatre Company, Galway. He has designed for the Royal Court, Donmar Warehouse, Old Vic and Greenwich Theatres in London, the Shakespeare in the Park Festival and Signature Theatres in New York and The Shakespeare Festival, Stratford Ontario. He designed THIS IS AN IRISH DANCE, a collaboration with Jean Butler and Neil Martin for the Danspace Project New York, the Kennedy Center Washington and the Project Arts Centre, Dublin. Conway directed for theatre and film, including the Yeats' version of OEDIPUS for Druid Theatre Co., and the short film THE CHALK UP (Irish Screen). He lectured extensively in scenography: at NCAD, Trinity College, the National University of Ireland, DIT, Sligo IT, The Lir, Dublin and the Motley Theatre Design Course, Covent Garden. |
